News: Slight Change to the New Splinter Cell Content
Posted: 2003-09-13 01:31:13
Technically it's still on the way, just not the way most of us thought it would be!

Fans who pre-order Rainbow Six 3 for Xbox beginning Monday September 15 will be treated to an exclusive Tom Clancy demo disc featuring playable demos of Rainbow Six 3, Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon: Island Thunder. Futhermore, all-new playable levels for Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon: Island Thunder can be downloaded from the demo disc and saved to your Xbox hard drive for use in the full retail versions of Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon: Island Thunder.
The new Splinter Cell content includes two new missions involving the Russian nuclear submarine Vselka. Sam is back in his "Snake Eyes" stealth outfit again as he infiltrates a submarine base and then the submarine itself to stop nuclear warheads from falling into the wrong hands.

The Ghost Recon Island Thunder content includes four brand new maps:

*Aurora - A barren nighttime desert scenario with campfires and a walled

*Compound. You have to prevent friendly troops from being ambushed

*Riverbed - Desert canyons are separated by a dried-up river and road with a useless bridge. You have to neutralize and enemy stronghold

*Roadblock - An intersection with an old fortress and hospital is littered with debris. You help man the roadblock and fight off attacking rebels.

*Tank - A narrow road with bridges that cross canyons a river. You help escort a supply convoy.

The new maps for both games were likely intended to be downloadable content at some point, but using the popularity of Ghost Recon:Island Thunder and Splinter Cell to leverage early sales of Rainbow Six 3 makes plenty of sense if you're Ubi Soft. Plus the company gets to show off its spiffy new logo sooner rather than later.

I believe I speak for every Sam Fisher and XBOX fan out there when I say, THIS BITES! "sigh" well time to go try and preorder Rainbow Six 3!

EB guys don't know what they are talking about until the disks get there. And jtcat, you guys are lucky because you get the levels as downloadable content. Although, you get the first level in late-September and the second level in October. So the US is kinda more lucky.

On the back of Island Thunder box, it says 5 DLC missions. 4 will be on the disk. So one will be downloadable so the Download Content feature isn't put to waste.

Honestly i think this is the worst thing i have seen so far, i have bought both ghost recon games and expected downloadable content, now for them to make me pre order a game just to get this, im going to give them a nice phone call tomorrow and complain. Fair enough ill buy the next game but in no way are they going to force ppl to pre order it! Possible court case, i mean ffs its an old game with old engine, i beta tested this title for ubi and now they do this, i will buy R63 but in no way will they force ppl to do that, the content should be for everyone because thats one of the reason ppl bought island thinder!

OOOOOOO know everyone. You have to spend 5 dollars to get 2 new levels for Splinter Cell and 4 new levels for Ghost Recon! Jeez. Do you think the developers like to sit there for months and make levels for nothing? How would you like to do work for months on end and not get a pay check? Jeez guys. Use some common sense. These great guys got to get payed somehow.

What SCUM-BAGS!!! I was going to buy Rainbow 6 anyways, but going about it like this is B.S.!!! I mean, it makes great business sense, but it certainly is not the way to go to keep your fans happy. Maybe AFTER Rainbow 6 is released these Splinter Cell levels will be available on Xbox Live.
